| Full-Day Bus Lane Scheme to be Extended to Three Locations |
1. From Monday, 22 December 2008, three stretches of normal bus lanes along Raffles Avenue, Raffles Boulevard and St Andrew's Road will be converted to full-day bus lanes, marking the completion of the expansion of the bus lane scheme which started in June this year.
2. Currently, these three stretches of normal bus lanes operate only during peak hours on weekdays. The full-day bus lane scheme operates from 7.30am to 8pm on all weekdays and Saturdays, except public holidays.
3. With the three new stretches, there will now be a total of 23km of full day bus lanes and 155km of normal bus lanes.
4. The increase in the coverage of bus lanes helps to ensure that buses have a smooth path of travel, increasing the speed and reliability of bus services for commuters. The bus lane scheme is one of several initiatives that LTA has launched as part of the Land Transport Master Plan to improve the speed and reliability of public buses.
Since the expansion of the bus lane scheme, the LTA has observed improvements of between 10% and 12% to bus speeds in several areas where bus lanes have been implemented, such as along the stretch of North and South Bridge Roads and Grange Road.
